Mental health is the subtleties that run through all our life experiences and silently determine our perspective on the world and our perspective on ourselves. It inhabits our minds at dawn when we get up in the morning, in our hearts as the day progresses, in our thoughts as the night falls silent. Being healthy minded does not imply living pain free, struggle free but having the ability to be honest with oneself and the boldness to move on despite the pulling weight of the way. Mental health educates us to believe that what we feel is acceptable, we have an experience, and the inner world should be taken care of as much as our physical body.
In a world where discussions most of the time focus on productivity and not peace, most people forget to listen to their minds. When we are busy denying our emotions, be it through false smiles, we are subtly adding stress, anxiety, sadness, and fear, and covering everything up with forced smiles. Mental health encourages us to be mindful of ourselves, to breathe, and to be non judgmental towards ourselves. It informs us that rest is not laziness, being vulnerable is not being weak and seeking assistance is not failure. In each individual, there are hidden battles and under each serene expression, there can be a heart that is yearning to be understood and seeks comfort.
Mental health also links us with other people in a very deep manner. By putting empathy instead of judgment and kindness instead of criticism, we contribute to creating the world in which people will feel safe enough to be open about their struggles. Meanwhile, the discussion of mental health dispels the negative silence and substitutes it with knowledge and empathy. When we support each other we please to remind those in pain that they are not the only ones and that sharing pain together makes it easier to heal and that the heart will heal.
Mental health is all about humanity in the end. It is about the realization that it is alright to be emotional, to fall and to stand up. By focusing on the psychological health, we learn to live sanely, with a sense of purpose and self-respect. A healthy mind enables us to dream freely, love freely and be fearless to take life as it is. When we take care of our mental health we opt for hope instead of silence, healing instead of shame, and a future when we feel peace, strength, and quiet happiness.
